Totally Retro!

When you hear the term Retro - do you just think old? Don't worry, lots of people do, but guess what? It is an actual era and style of jewelry dating back to the late 1930's and went through the 1950s and it is Fabulous! Unfortunately, this style got a bad wrap for being chunky, clunky and for old ladies. Trust, it is none of those things.

Platinum was a vibe during the Art Deco period of the roaring 20s. Emeralds, sapphires and rubies were commonly used alongside diamonds. However, during World War II platinum was needed for the war effort, so gold became the top choice for fine jewelry. Goldsmiths and design houses got creative alloying gold with higher copper content making gold have a pink cast or with silver to make gold look more green. Floral pieces of jewelry could have rose colored flowers, green leaves as well as yellow and white gold elements.

Not only did gold get a glow up, but big bold color from gemstones became front and center. Large less expensive gemstones became on-trend creating a rainbow of vivid colors. Aquamarine, topaz, citrine and amethyst brightened up rings, brooches, earrings and more

Necklaces had bracelets that could clip in to make the necklace longer. Earrings that clip into a brooch, hair-clip, bracelet or necklace. They could all be worn together or separately!
